Since 2019, DS Automobiles has included Révélations in the list of its unmissable events. In the centre of Paris, at the Grand Palais Éphémère, this show is a special chance to display unparalleled expertise and network with the artists and craftspeople at the biennial event.
Work with leather and fabrics, stitching, surprising materials such as feather or straw marquetry, the unique treatment of trim and surfaces through the Clous de Paris embossed inserts etc…, DS Automobiles has made a speciality of integrating new expertise into its production models and concept cars.
DS x MÉTIERS D’ART, the gateway between DS and fine craftsmanship
In line with the success of the first DS x MÉTIERS D'ART design competition, DS Automobiles has launched a second called DS LUMEN, highlighting work on light effects through material, with an application to the grille of New DS 3 E-TENSE, the 100% electric model.
As proof of this recognized commitment to fine craftsmanship, DS Automobiles will be invited to speak at the opening of the show during a conference on best practice for luxury brands and crafts. Vincent Lobry, Head of Colours, Materials and Finishes at DS Automobiles, will speak alongside Raphaëlle Le Baud, founder of the consulting firm Métiers Rares, and Charlotte Joyeux, International Marketing Director of Hennessy Éditions Rares. Through concrete examples such as the DS x Métiers d'Art design competition, the conference will explore the synergies between luxury and crafts and the emergence of innovative projects aimed at preserving authenticity and craftspeople’s expertise.
Révélations, where the three DS x MÉTIERS D'ART 2 finalists are announced
The DS Automobiles stand at the Révélations show will display the work from the DS x METIERS D'ART 2 competition. The public will see the work of the nine chosen candidates and also the three entries selected by the jury.
The work of the latter will be shown in the form of a “full-scale” grille from New DS 3. Creativity, exceptional expertise and the ability to push the boundaries of art and design were the factors behind the choice of the three finalists. Their achievements are a true demonstration of their talent and unique artistic vision. Consequently, the jury picked:
- Justine Durand and her work with eggshell. This versatile artist specialises in wall decoration and painting. During her artistic studies and collaborations with studios, she discovered the art of lacquer and eggshell inlay. Enthralled by this natural material, she explores her creative potential by developing unique pieces, ranging from furniture to personal designs. By using each piece of eggshell as a mosaic, Justine plays with dimensions, colours and textures to capture the simple and diverse beauty of nature.
- Lyse Drouaine and her work crafted from weaving optical fibres and copper wire. Designer of luminous materials and a graduate of the Duperré School of Applied Arts in Paris, she founded the Luxdawn® design house in 2018 and devotes herself to weaving special materials by hand. Using linen, hemp, silk and copper thread, combined with optical and diffusing fibres, she creates subtle and elegant light compositions. Her materials are designed for the layout of interior spaces, giving interior architects, designers and artists the opportunity to create sensitive and innovative settings.
- Atelier Noue: Charlotte Winné and Ludovic Buron and their work in twisted bronze. They are a creative couple combining craftsmanship and design. Both were trained in crafts at the Boulle school. Their workshop, called Noue, stands out by a cross-disciplinary and inquisitive approach, based on the interchange of their expertise in cabinetmaking and bronze mounts. Their line of design is defined by the search for accuracy in shapes, materials and connections, with an accessible and immediate aesthetic. As part of the DS LUMEN project, Atelier Noue revisits the identity of the traditional grille by offering a polished brass frame that interacts with light, creating spellbinding visual interplay.
At this 6th running of the biennial, the Brand will also take the chance to present its vision for the interiors of tomorrow, the result of close collaboration between the Design teams and fine craftsmanship highlighted in a unique way. See you on June 7 at Révélations to find out about it.
