The Scorpion continues to sting in the racing field, with a global presence in three different continents, standing by the principles of founder Carlo Abarth, at the side of young drivers since the brand's dawn.
2022 was a great year for the Abarth-powered Formula 4 championship, with impressive numbers. The six national series, using the Tatuus F4 T421 chassis and the 180 hp Abarth T-Jet 1.4 engine, were once again a great success, bringing 130 drivers from 41 different nationalities to the track. 127 races were held during the year on 30 different circuits in 10 different countries by the Italian F4 Championship, ADAC Formel 4, F4 British Championship, F4 Spanish Championship, F4 Brazilian Championship and F4 UAE.
Presence strengthened in 2022 with the new Abarth Pulse, the brand’s first-ever SUV successfully launched in Brazil, which was the official safety car in the F4 Brazilian Championship.
The 6 series around the globe saw the best talents between ages 15 and 18 compete on track, with 5 winners coming from 5 different countries.
The stand-out driver of the season was Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who between F4 UAE, Italian F4 Championship and ADAC Formel 4 was 24 times on the top of the podium. 16 years old, from Bologna, he was a true globetrotter, participating in 3 championships and claiming an impressive amount of wins.
ITALIAN F4 Championship
In the Italian series, now in its ninth season, 55 drivers of 28 different nationalities took part in at least one race, with an average of more than 38 cars on the grid at each round. Andrea Kimi Antonelli (ITA - Prema Racing) came out on top, with 13 wins and 14 pole positions out of the 20 races held, helping Prema Racing to victory in the team standings.
ADAC Formel 4 - Germany
The 16-year-old from Bologna is also the champion of the seventh season of the ADAC Formel 4. Out of the 18 races in the German series, nine were won by Antonelli, along with seven pole positions. 33 drivers took to the track in the ADAC series with 17-year-old Ferrari Driver Academy driver Rafael Camara (BRA - Prema Racing) claiming the rookie title. Even in the German series, the team title was won by the Italian Prema Racing.
F4 British Championship
Now in its eighth season, for the first time powered by an Abarth engine, the F4 British Championship brought 22 drivers from 10 different countries to the track in the 30 races spread over 10 rounds. The final victory went to Alex Dunne (IRL - Hitech GP), vice-champion in the Italian series. With 11 wins and 10 poles, the Irishman came out on top while Ugo Ugochukwu (USA - Carlin) was first amongst rookies, contributing, together with runner-up Oliver Gray, to the team title for Carlin.
F4 Spanish Championship
The seventh season for the F4 Spanish Championship saw as many as 49 drivers from 25 different nations compete in the 21 races held in Spain, Portugal and Belgium. Triumph for Nikola Tsolov (BUL - Campos Racing) with 13 wins and 15 pole positions. The Bulgarian's domination was also solidified by his victory among the rookies and in the team leaderboard with Campos Racing.
F4 Brazilian Championship
The F4 Brazilian Championship premiered in 2022, collecting consensus from the start; the six rounds crowned Pedro Clerot (BRA - Full Time Sports) as first Brazilian champion. 16 cars lined up in the South American series for the 18 races, with Clerot winning on seven occasions and four times claming the Abarth Pole Position. The Scorpion in the Brazilian series brought the new Abarth Pulse, the first Abarth-branded SUV, to the track as the official safety car of the championship. The car, created specifically for the South American market, is the fastest compact SUV in Brazil and marks Abarth’s return to the country. F4UAE Championship
Opening the 2022 season was the F4 UAE Championship; 40 drivers started the season in the UAE with Charlie Wurz (AUT - Prema Racing) the overall winner thanks to a great performance with three poles. His teammate Rafael Camara (BRA - Prema Racing) became rookie champion, contributing to the team's victory in the UAE series.
